Group on the Eisenhower PierOn the fine spring morning of 9 April 2017, some members of the South Eastern Health Trust’s visually impaired walking group with their escorts and organiser Laura Cromie, enjoyed a two hour guided historical tour of Bangor’s seafront while strolling from the Eisenhower Pier up Seacliff Road to the Jamaica Inn where they enjoyed a delicious lunch.

Their guide was Ian Wilson, the Chairman of Bangor Historical Society whose running commentary covered the wartime role of the Eisenhower Pier and Ballyholme Bay in the preparations for D- Day 1944. He also related some of the Long Hole’s history and highlighted some geological and architectural features of Seacliff Road including such buildings as The Royal Ulster Yacht Club. Several other members of Bangor Historical Society attended the guided historical walk which was greatly enjoyed by all participants.
